THE 5-POCKET PANT WE DESERVE LAUNCHES TODAY
2 years ago, Y.Chroma customer Don Schloth insisted that we needed to make a really great 5-pocket pant. Don and I went on to become good friends, which means he continues to remind me!
The old 5-pocket has bugged me for years. It's a men's wardrobe staple, but they're a dime a dozen. Plus, they make my ass look flat.
How do you make a 5-pocket pant that's special? (And that doesn't make your midlife ass look blah?) Well, we had to add a few things that nobody else will do...and remove the one thing that's been a problem for a 150 years.
Here are the top 3 things I believe make this the best 5-pocket you can buy, anywhere.
1. More Camera Metal Than A Nikon
Of course — of course — we included the famous Y.Chroma waist band. They're the key to a superb pant. Just this piece has many more operations to construct than any whole pant in the mall. It's a ton of work but once you try it you'll never go back.
Then we kept going. Buttons are now black metal, and ribbon mounted — inspired by WWI officer uniforms designed to work in the trenches. Interior buttons, a man-sized zipper and properly scaled zipper pull are all finally sized and built to the standard we wanted.
2. The Fabric
We want back to work in Milan to remaster and recolour the fan-favourite Becker Pant fabric. This fabric is rugged and yet it has incredible drape. This is hard. You can get a pretty decent cotton twill for a few bucks a yard and, honestly, 100% of the pants in the mall do that because it works. This twill costs quite a bit more than a few bucks a yard, but wow. It has drape. This allows the pant to go up-market when the room you're walking into is a bit more polished.
3. Your Ass Looks Great
5-pocket pants have used the same triangle panel you see at the top of jeans (including ours) since 1870. This tends to work with denim. But with other fabrics it can make your ass look flat because it applies pressure at the top of the back of the pant. That just flattens the whole back of the house. This is a shame because it prevents a great fabric from working for you.
This fabric is outstanding. To let it do its thing, we took this super rugged pant build and made the back like a bespoke suit. It's a puzzle made from a single piece of fabric. No triangle panel.
