Dark on top, Basil on the bottom. Still the combination I reach for.
Today I'm in the Berlin Black Dwayne V-Neck Cashmere and the Basil Becker Short. Simple combination — dark on top, light on the bottom — and one I keep coming back to.
These shorts are two years old.
I'm telling you that because it matters. Two years of regular wear, and they look exactly the way they did when I first put them on. That's not an accident. That's what happens when you build something properly.
The Dwayne V-Neck Cashmere on top is a cashmere-cotton blend — soft enough to wear directly on skin, which is exactly how I'm wearing it here. No shirt underneath, no layer needed. The blend is the reason it works in any season — warm enough for a cool evening, light enough that you forget you're wearing knitwear. Berlin Black keeps everything sharp and deliberate above the waist.
The Basil Becker Short underneath is the right call for this combination. Light on the bottom, dark on top — that contrast is one of the cleanest ways to wear color. Basil has enough depth to hold its own against the Berlin Black without competing. The Becker structure does the rest.
Two years in. Still the first combination I reach for.
