FOUNDER | CREATIVE DIRECTOR

I WANTED TO SEX UP THIS OLD BATTLE AXE OF A SHIRT FORMAT. SO, WE TOOK ACTION.

Sublime French linen, tailored inner framework and a fashionable (non-Costco shirt) collar brings the big-time new heat to this old staple of a shirt.

You will fall hard for the
Madeira Long Sleeve Polo — in sublime French Linen milled exclusively for Y.Chroma. It comes in seven colorways, and it’s the result of more than a year of work, testing, and refinement.

This is not the polo you grab off the table at Costco. It is strong up top and sleek — and sexy — everywhere else. It’s a year-round, functional daily driver that also radiates European cool.

If you're still reading this, here are the four big things we changed to pull off this fashion magic trick:

1. The Collar

Mall collars are just a band of ribbed fabric, so they can look frumpy and tired right away. I will never frame your face with something frumpy and tired.

Our Madeira French Linen Long Sleeve Polo starts with a proper collar stand, like a dress shirt, so it never sags. Then the collar itself is precision-sewn, interlined, and bonded with a paper-thin canvas so it has the right weight and structure.

You’ll notice it’s slightly larger than a traditional polo collar. I promise you can pull this off. And the hidden suit-style anchor buttons keep things positioned all day long.

2. The Cuffs

I like to roll the sleeves up, and that should look good. That’s why we built structured cuffs, carefully interlined with two button positions. When you fold the sleeves, they stay crisp and "blocky" all day instead of collapsing into that blown-out sausage roll most long-sleeve polos end up with.

We even lined the inside seams so that when the sleeves are rolled, you never expose unfinished seams. That is, perhaps, overkill. But, if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.

3. The Bottom Edge

Look at the bottom edge and the way it works with the side seams. Most polos are cut straight across because that’s feasible to mass produce. Our bottom edge curves take more time than most entire polos take to make, but the payoff for you is obvious.

It has a gorgeous drape, and lands properly. I want it to hit about halfway down your zipper in the front, slightly longer in the back, with a gentle curve up toward pocket level on the sides. That curve does a lot of work. It creates a cleaner silhouette and visually lengthens the leg line.

4. The Fabric

Why did we choose Fench linen?

Linen is made from the flax plant, and the best flax in the world for a supple linen comes from one place: Normandy. There are just some things that those Frenchies do better than anyone else in the world, and this is one of those things. It’s not a close call.

This fabric has a natural elasticity and an effortless drape. It allows colors to carry a subtle sheen that makes the fabric come alive in the light.

But great linen alone isn’t enough. You need structure behind it.

So we built the shirt with as much attention to the construction as we always do. Cognac Silk™ lines the armholes, the back panel is double-bonded, and key areas are reinforced so the shirt has structure where it needs it. This gives the top of the shirt the frame it needs so that the bottom drapes beautifully.

Lads, this long-sleeve polo is a wardrobe game changer. Built for spring and summer, I think it will become one of your favorites.

Enjoy.
